The Goliath Expedition

12 years, 36,000 miles, 4 continents, 25 countries, crossing a frozen sea, 6 deserts, 7 mountain ranges

At long last we have something for the ‘latest update. Our apologies for the slow turnover of Expedition news, however the last update basically covered it all. Karl is now back in Fairbanks and continues to busily work away at obtaining the passes and permits required for his next leg across the Chukotka region of Siberia. He not only needs documentation for himself but also for items of his equipment. One of his major tasks is to work out a way of shipping a substantial amount of food and fuel to Russia, which has then to be distributed and securely stored in five ‘way points’ along his route. Over the past couple of days the BBC have been out with Karl and have completed the filming they started at the time of the Bering Strait crossing. The Expedition will be shown on ‘Inside Out’ on Monday, 9th October 2006. It will take the full 30 minutes of the programme, but can only be seen by those in the ‘BBC North’ region or those with Sky who can tune to that programme.

It’s good to se the journey continue. I’ve checked the site often looking for change, afraid that the whole expeditition had come to an unrecoverable end in February. I’ll be reading and cheering you on Karl.

May the wind be at your back.

I bought a copy of ‘Giant Steps’ a few days ago, and am enjoying it immensely! going off to read more soon!

I had not heard of this journey before, and I know I’ll be following it from now on!

Glad to be able to support Karl, in a small way like this.

I decided a while ago that I will do at least one big journey/expedition in my life.. not sure when, or where.. (although I’m sure it won’t be walking 36,000 miles), but it will be something good.. and it will mean something to me… which is all that counts! :)

    Regards,

WOW! I really admire all of you who has the courage and dedication to go on these expeditions! It must really be an amazing experience of a life time. I just wanted to remind everyone that crossing borders nowadays are getting more and more difficult so its best to make sure you have all the permits required to cross a border, especially the U.S. For me, even going on a vacation trip was difficult before because I keep getting denied entry at the U.S border. Anyway, I can finally cross the border with ease today with a waiver that i got through a company called Canadian Pardon Services, who helped me apply for a pre-authorization to cross the border. Maybe some day i could take on a mini expedition myself!

Hi, Does anyone know if its possible to get a copy of the ‘Inside Out’ featuring Karl. I think it’d be great to watch, but Australia is just a tad to far away to pick up BBC north.
