Update
17th May 2006
Karl and Dimitri are still Anadyr attempting to have their equipment, which is still in Lavrentiya, flown down to join them. It’s just a question of paperwork at the moment and the fact that there aren’t many flights between the two towns. Once they have all the equipment they will then be free to fly back to Alaska. It’s believed that the earliest flight they can take will be on 23rd May, and of course this depends on the equipment situation. As stated in the previous update Karl will remain in Fairbanks to re-equip and prepare for what will be an arduous trip across Siberia next winter.
There are now three new photographs on the crew ‘Latest photographs’ section which were taken by Ingi Ingarson filming for the BBC. One was actually taken on the Bering Straits and gives you a good idea of the terrain.

confused why free load in fairbanks when england has such a good welfare system?
1. Karl won’t be freeloading anywhere. He’s staying with a friend that he stayed with before and will almost certainly be paying for everything he uses or eats.
2. He can’t return to England until he walks there. One of the two golden rules.
It seems a shame that as publicity surrounding Karl’s plight in Russia wanes, the only people who continue to post are those looking for a reaction. I would like to change that. Having just finished reading Giant Steps, I can’t wait to see the next installment. Karl is doing something others can only dream of. I for one wish him nothing but the best, and if I can make it up to Fairbanks this summer will do my best to find him and tell him so. Thanks for the updates Keith, and please don’t let the ill will of others cause you to send them less frequently.
No worries Ernest…I am sure there will be more posts as more progress continues to be made. Those truly interested in Karl’s journey far outweigh trolls.
IMHO, I think those who run blogs should flush trolls comments off the page. It is not a newsgroup, and blogmasters do not have to oblige idiotic rude comments anymore than allowing them in their home.
I think what candy was trying to say is that she is jealous that Karl has found away to get people to help him reach his dreams with out having to have a wage job. That is without having to do an honest days work.
I understand the jealousy. Little people with little lives would resent someone who have managed to raise funds to live a dream. A thought, what is honest work? Only something that is imagination draining, with little recoginition or adequate pay, the kind that one cannot help but try to surf blogs and make snarky comments to escape one’s situtation? Are entertainers, jocks, and artists not putting in an honest day’s work?
Keith Bushby, don’t get sucked into reacting to these jokers trying to pull your (and Karl’s) chain. It is very gracious of you to allow these jokers to post their comments, but most of us who read this site…know what Karl is genuinely really all about.
Calling Karl a freeloader…is about as ridiculous as ridiculous gets.
Is Karl doing the most admirable thing in history? No. But he is doing his thing, and demonstrating to all…the amazing things that a determined will can achieve.
We love you, Karl and Keith! And admire you both.
Looking forward to seeing more Bering Strait photos, and photos from Uelen and the Russian coastline.

Long time since I last logged onto the Goliath site, so only now reading Karls’ letter from June, (good letter, even if it has been tweaked by Pa). Surprised to find out, via reading the letter and then checking out some comment pages, that some people have been posting negatively, - why? Karl ain’t saving the world, but he ain’t harming it either. I would have thought that anyone with any sense of adventure and/or ambition to travel under their own steam could only follow Karls’ quest with interest, if not active support, and I suspect that the negative postees have very small minds and very shallow lives.
Bo Voyage.
