Things had been quite rough…

Things had been quite rough and although they had managed to do over 30 miles, they were now more-or-less due north of Cape Prince of Wales but finding it very difficult to make any progress westward towards Russia. The lack of westward movement is of course not good news, but at least they are a reasonable distance north of Wales. Had they been the same distance south of Wales it would have been the end of the crossing.
