Karl reaches Nome

28 January 2006
Contrary to the last update, Karl did shorten the journey from Shaktoolik to Koyuk by crossing the sea ice of Norton Bay. Unfortunately, this meant an involuntary dunking at one point, but more about that in the journals. On the 15th January Karl reached Golovin, making his way westwards along the Seaward Peninsular. He has stayed in the schools at Elim, Golovin and White Mountain repaying that kindness by giving talks to the children. Karl reached Nome on 22nd January, and will meet up with Dimitri Kieffer on the 26th January. A couple of days after that they will start out on that last leg to Cape Prince of Wales.
